The Changing Face of New Zealand

New Zealand - the land of 4,027,967 people. It's a fascinating place and changing one as revealed by the 2006 Census of Population and dwellings.
Consider the following facts* about New Zealand people:
- 59,000 have lived in New Zealand for less than a year
- 23 percent were born overseas
- There are 97,000 more females than males (yes, there's a man drought)
- 49 percent of those 15 years and over are married
- 40 percent of those 15 years and over have a post school qualification
- the most common occupational group is ‘professionals’, followed by ‘managers’
- there are 600 clowns, musicians and acrobats
- 1.8 million have moved house in the last 5 years
- 74 percent of households have access to a cell phone, and 60.5 percent have Internet access
- 157,000 people speak Maori, and 45,000 speak Hindi
- there are 637,000 ex-smokers
