Will my goods need to be quarantined?

It is unusual for anything in an average shipment of household effects to need to be quarantined, particularly if you have followed the customs guidelines accurately. Providing a comprehensive inventory will help in this process.

Wooden items stand a higher chance of being quarantined because they can, and often do, contain pests, diseases and seeds, which may pose a risk to New Zealand’s environment. Importing timber or wood from tropical climates may pose a particular biosecurity risk. Any furniture or handcrafts containing native timbers from these environments may require fumigation.
