Interest free student loans

Student loans are now interest free for borrowers living in New Zealand. Eligible borrowers have been entitled to a write-off of all the interest charged on their loan from 1 April 2006. "Generally, to be eligible for an interest free student loan, you will need to have lived in New Zealand for 183 or more consecutive days (about six months)," Andrew Minto, Inland Revenue National Manager, says.

Unlimited: Discovery One

"It’s school. But not as we know it," ran a recent headline in The Timaru Herald. The article referred to a new primary school being set up in Christchurch by the city’s former mayor Vicki Buck, along with education commentator Gordon Dryden and several other educationalists. The school, called Discovery One, advocates "learning by discovery", doing away with formal structures such as teaching only in the classroom or from 9am to 3pm.
