What’s the best way to go about getting a mortgage back home?

The current mortgage market is highly competitive in New Zealand, and it is well worth shopping around for the best deal.

Cannex, an independent financial services research group, provides a free online rating of mortgage lenders in New Zealand. The latest Cannex Mortgage Star Ratings awarded only five institutions five stars: ASB, Bank Direct, BNZ, Kiwibank and Westpac.

Some councils, or local authorities, also offer an online rates calculator with which to work how out how much you will pay in rates – each city charges differently.
