Stuff: Speight's Pub To Give Kiwis Overseas A Taste Of Home

The Southern Man is about to broaden his horizons. Or at least his pub is. Lion Nathan said a $300,000 Speight's Ale House will be freighted to London on a 70m-long chartered container ship in July. The journey will take an estimated 70 days, with the ship going via Samoa, Panama, the Bahamas and New York on its way to London, the Otago Daily Times reported today.

As Wellington's newest reef blooms into life, tales of a stashed golden bounty have emerged from the sunken wreck of the F69. As well as 3000 tonnes of warship, 24 bottles of beer also sank to the sea floor when the decommissioned frigate Wellington was scuttled off Island Bay. The F69 Trust chairman Marco Zeeman said two dozen bottles of Bennetts Ale had been stashed inside the ship "bow to stern". And those lucky enough to find one were in for a nice surprise. "If you manage to find one, (Bennetts beer brewer) Maurice Bennett will hand you two dozen back."
